Terri has a good grasp of alcoholism. It’s real, it’s deadly, and it’s here, around us all!
I’ve seen friends and co-workers fall under it’s spell, and I’ve seen it wreck marriages, careers, and innocent lives, usually children.

Portia realized that she needed help, and the alcoholic must help themselves before others can help.

Portia is one of the lucky ones, for most alcoholics don’t realize their disease until their body is ruined or another member of their family is destroyed. Often by that time it is too late for the alcoholic's liver.

I wholeheartedly agree, George.  Terri did a great job in pointing out how addictive alcohol can be.  I guess nearly all of us have had someone close to us who were--or are--alcoholics.

Good story! I like the way it starts slowly with Portia not believing that she needs help but in the end, realizes that she's in the right place after all. Nice going.

I think this story was a good portrayal of alcoholism.

There was one thing that I think would help make it more powerful.  In the story, she does a flashback.  I kind of wanted the story to start there.  It would have been a nice place to start at the beginning of the end and end and the beginning of an alcohol free life.

It's a story of denial, then acceptance, then the first step on a new path, so I think it is important to establish all of those scenes fully.
