Posted 27/07/2006 11:22:04 PM | | An interesting story! The security guard must have developed a feeling of worthlessness that stemmed from the rape and death of his mother. His mother killed and he was burned, severely. And his face scared, but with today’s plastic surgery his face could have been rebuilt. The story doesn’t mention the time, location, or if plastic surgery was attempted and what the results were.
His mother said that he would amount to great things, but he works as a security guard.
For her to say that, she knew that he had talent and brains and could succeed if he tried. But her rape and death took all his hopes and dreams from him.
The burglars became a symbol to him, a symbol of everything evil with the world, and he responded by unleashing all of his bottled-up feelings, and those feeling transmitted themselves through the bat with vengeance.
Four thugs attacked him, one had beaten him down but then the spark of life ignited a passion to live, and he overpowered the one who had beaten him, then overpowered another one. The two others fled.
I’m not sure about the last paragraph, nor the resolution as to what makes a hero. I think different hero will give different reason. Some want it, some need it, while others just fall into it by circumstance, where they have to think fast on their feet. That happens in the military often.
Not a bad story, and I’ll give Justin an A for introducing a psychological element into the story
